This Barangay was formerly known as Barrio Lubigan named after the abundant herbs called “Lubigan”, a medicinal plants that grow in the area used as medicine by the native especially during the World War II when they experience the scarcity of medicines. The barrio folks entrusted their belief to with the intercession of San Roque as their patron saint of pestilence or plague.
During the Spanish Regime, there were Filipinos who revolted against the Spaniards and became heroes which captured the hearts of their countrymen. Among them were Dr. Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio and the much known sublime paralytic Apolinario Mabini. Mabini, had been recognized for his enormous intelligence whom he was loved by the Filipinos particularly the residents of Barrio Lubigan. Since then, the barrio folks decided to change the name of Barrio Lubigan to Mabini, in honor of Apolinario Mabini.
