In a significant step toward empowering its citizens through technology, the Municipality of Buenavista has achieved Level 2 status in the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT)โ€™s Tech4ED program. Following an inspection and assessment conducted on October 10, 2024, by the DICT-Tech4ED Project Management Team from the Central Office, the proposed Buenavista Digital Transformation Center (DTC) earned high marks, bringing the town closer to its goal of bridging the digital divide.

The successful assessment was the result of a coordinated effort, with support from various stakeholders, including:

โ€ขMs. Cresile Lozano and Ms. Faith Canales from the DICT Regional Office

โ€ขSir Elry Hortillosa and Sir Bryan GA, head of the DICT Provincial Office

โ€ขSir Michael Galanza, head of the ICT Section in Buenavista

The leadership of Hon. Samuel T. Gumarin, MD, MPH, Municipal Mayor, Atty. Raymond Moderes, Legal Consultant, and the full backing of the Sangguniang Bayan members, who have been instrumental in advocating for the projectโ€™s success.

With this achievement, Buenavista is set to receive 25 brand-new desktop computers, along with furniture, fixtures, and other vital equipment for the DTC, courtesy of the DICT Central Office. The Digital Transformation Center, located on the 3rd floor of the Municipal Building, is expected to be fully operational by the first quarter of 2025.

The DTCโ€™s mission is simple but powerful: to ensure that no one is left behind in the digital age. Designed as a public space, the center will offer free access to computers and the internet for those who cannot afford these resources. Itโ€™s not just a place to browse the web or send emails. Itโ€™s a hub for digital literacy trainingโ€”a space where community members can build their skills and improve their chances of succeeding in todayโ€™s tech-driven world.

From elementary and high school students to the elderly and persons with disabilities (PWDs), the DTC will offer a wide range of training modules tailored to various skill levels. Courses will include:

Basic Digital Literacy

Photo Editing and Manipulation

Video Editing

Microsoft Office applications,

etc.

The DTCโ€™s focus on digital inclusion reflects Buenavistaโ€™s commitment to using technology as a tool for social and economic development. By offering free training and access to technology, the center will empower individuals to enhance their skill sets, pursue job opportunities, and contribute to the overall growth of the community.

As Buenavista prepares for the opening of the DTC, the future looks brighter and more connected. With technology now within reach, the residents of Buenavista are poised to step confidently into the digital age.
