The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has issued a new Memorandum Circular (MC No. 2024-135) mandating all Local Government Units (LGUs), including the Municipality of Buenavista, to comply with updated data privacy regulations. These amendments are in line with the requirements set by the National Privacy Commission (NPC) through NPC Circular No. 2022-04, and aim to enhance the protection of personal information handled by local governments.

Key provisions of the circular include:

Mandatory Appointment of a Data Protection Officer (DPO): Each LGU must designate a DPO responsible for ensuring compliance with the Data Privacy Act (DPA) and related regulations.

Registration of Data Processing Systems (DPS): LGUs must register their systems for processing personal data with the NPC to ensure that data collection and processing follow national standards.

Display of the National Privacy Commission (NPC) Seal of Registration (SOR): All LGUs are required to publicly display the NPC SOR as a sign of their compliance with data privacy regulations.

These measures are crucial to safeguarding the personal data of all citizens and maintaining public trust in local governance. Compliance with these new standards will also promote transparency, accountability, and the secure management of personal data.

The Municipality of Buenavista is committed to adhering to these regulations, ensuring the privacy and rights of our constituents are protected in accordance with the law.
