History

Formerly, Barangay Rizal was only a portion of land covered by “Gibuangan” now Barangay Sto. Rosario. As time passed by, the population increased until such time that the residents decided and initiated to separate from its mother barangay, the Sto. Rosario.

A Cabeza de Barangay was created which composed of leaders from the elderly and religious sect, the Iglesia Filipina Independiente. They have chosen Virgin Mary as their Patron and they decided to celebrate their own Barangay Fiesta every third Sunday of June– when Virgin Mary ascended into heaven (“the Ascension of Virgin Mary”). But, residents don’t know yet on what would be the name of their place.

There was a time when the residents were celebrating their fiesta in Honor of Virgin Mary and it happened that it was the birthdate of our National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal– the 19th of June. They then were very glad to name their place as Rizal to recognize our Philippine National Hero.
