New Municipal Building

This new Buenavista Town Hall was constructed in year 2007. It is a two-storey building. Presently, the construction of its extension to make a three-storey building is still on-going. Evidently, Buenavista-the mother town of the Island Province of Guimaras rises rapidly towards development.

 

Old Municipal Building
Address: Old Poblacion, Buenavista, Guimaras

This is a glimpse of the Old Municipal Hall. It is situated in an elevated portion of Barangay Old Poblacion- structured with a “terasa” or terrace where one can see the overlooking beautiful view of Guimaras Strait. According to stories told by the old folks, during their time, the ground portion of the Municipal Hall served as the prison cell for those who committed crimes against the government.

The building was presumably constructed in 1881.

 

HEROES PARK
Address: New Poblacion, Buenavista, Guimaras

The Heroes Park is considered as historical landmark and is also called the Mini Park. It is where the emblem of the List of Heroes of Buenavista during the World War II is structured. This is in memory of the brave Buenavistahanons who have fought against the savagery and brutalities of alien foes, and died because of their love for fellow Buenavistahanons.

MC ARTHUR’S WHARF
Address: Sto. Rosario, Buenavista, Guimaras

Sto. Rosario Wharf is commonly known as “Buenavista Wharf”. It was constructed in 1903 by U.S. Corps of Engineers led by Lt. General Douglas McArthur, fresh from West Point, Germany. It was near this place when they were ambushed by the guerillas which General McArthur nearly lost his head.

MC ARTHUR’S HEADQUARTERS and CAMP JOSSMAN

McArthur’s Headquarters and Camp Jossman is about seven (7) kilometers from Sto. Rosario Wharf, now called Buenavista Wharf, going to Barangay Supang.

In 1901, the American soldiers arrived and cordoned Barangay Supang. In 1903-1904, they established a camp and called it Camp Jossman where a regiment of American soldiers and two (2) battalions of the Philippine Scouts encamped wherein they constructed a structure to be used as their headquarters. The U.S. Corp of Engineers led by Lt. General Doughlas McArthur, who, fresh from West Point- a U.S. Military School, landed in Buenavista Wharf. He stayed at the headquarters built by the U.S. Military in Camp Jossman in Barangay Supang. Hence, the headquarters was named “McArthur’s Headquarters”. During that time, they were able to construct the Buenavista Wharf until 1912.

PUNTA BLANCO TARGET RANGE

During the American regime, the U.S. Corp under the leadership of Lt. Gen. Douglas McArthur constructed a shooting range in Barangay Nazaret and he named it “Punta Blanco Target Range”. Target Ranges has three trails situated in Barangays Tinadtaran, Nazaret and Camp Jossman in Barangay Supang
