BUENA VISTA
“GOOD VIEW”
Welcome to the scenic and historic Town of Buenavista!
Close to Iloilo City and accessible in fifteen minutes by motorboat, lies the TOWN OF BUENAVISTA, one of the five municipalities situated in the northern part of exotic Island Province of Guimaras, known for its United States’ Certified Sweetest Mangoes in the World. It has picturesque beaches, falls, springs, and offshore inlets mentioned by Philippine National Hero Doctor Jose P. Rizal in his travel diary as early as 1800s.
The vast Flora Life of the Town of Buenavista is undoubtedly an attraction to both local and foreign Lovers of Nature. Mango plantations, forest trees and ornamentals provide sources of income to landowners. Plants abound in the yards of houses of citizens and all along the countryside. It is a fact that this municipality deserves its name to be called, “BUENAVISTA!”
Originally, Buenavista named as Tilad. How the name Tilad changed to Buenavista is a matter of fact and fancy. One of the accounts said that the name Buenavista transpired when a Spanish Governor General of Iloilo visited the place during the election of the first governadorcillo or capitan municipal. Upon his arrival at the old town-site presently called Barangay Old Poblacion, there he stood overlooking his trip from Iloilo, he was amazed by the fascinating scenery of the place; touched with nature’s haven view, suddenly, he exclaimed “Buena Vista!””, which means “Good View”. Thus, the name Tilad changed to Buenavista.
