The Province of Guimaras celebrated the World Rabies Day 2016 with a theme: “RABIES: EDUCATE, VACCINATE, ELIMINATE.” last September 28, 2016 at the Guimaras Provincial Capitol Ground.

Rabies is zoonosis, and human infection which usually occurs the bite or scratch by an infected animal. It is considered a neglected disease that is 100% fatal but 100% preventable. In the Philippines, rabies is considered a significant public health problem because it is responsible for the death of Filipinos.

The Municipality of Buenavista spearheaded by the Municipal Health and Agriculture Offices supported the said activity.

Moreover, the LGU has an ongoing program on vaccinating Dogs (free rabies shots) from DOH every last Friday of the month. It also conducted massive dog elimination on October 4-15, 2016 and a total of 61 dogs were eliminated.

Such program aims to stop the spread of the disease to people and save lives of people and dogs especially in the locale of Buenavista.
