Momentous. Proud. Glorious.

Basking in the limelight of victory at the Malacañang Palace, Buenavista Local Government Unit accepted the Presidential Award for Child-Friendly Municipalities and Cities (PACFMC) handed by the President Rodrigo Duterte himself. Headed by Mayor Eugenio Reyes, Sangguniang Bayan Member Raquel Sambas and SB Member Cheryl Fernandez were the ones who represented the Municipality of Buenavista. The awarding was headed by the President and was assisted by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Judy Taguiwalo. “The PACFMC is the government’s effort to recognize the collective efforts of people in the Local Government Units (LGUs) who selflessly and tirelessly work to promote children’s rights,” as explained by the DSWD Secretary.

PACFMC is an award pursuant to Executive Order No. 184 of December 13, 1999, “Establishing the Presidential Award for Child-Friendly Municipalities and Cities.” It is given to deserving LGUs acknowledging their vital role in the sustained promotion of kids’ rights to survival, development, protection and participation. The awarding ceremony took place on September 26, 2016. Buenavista won in the 1st to 3rd Class Municipality Category with the help of the Municipal Council for Protection for Children (MCPC), hitting 95.5% of total points.

Buenavista’s advocacy for children’s rights was long ago established, having implemented varied programs and scholarships for a couple of years back. Sec. Taguiwalosays,“Their individual and organizational contributions, big or small, form part of these initiatives and achievements to make our country a better place for our children. The awardees and finalists of the PACFMC all have done their best to provide Filipino children with quality and effective programs and services. We want their efforts to be sustained and replicated not just for our children’s welfare, but for those also of other marginalized and vulnerable groups and families that need our support and service.”
