One of the most significant dates in the Philippine’s history is the Independence Day because it marks the nation’s freedom and liberation from the Spanish rule on June 12, 1898. Filipinos celebrate it annually every June 12.
The Local Government Unit of Buenavista, Province of Guimaras commemorated the 118th Independence Day Celebration. It is a nationwide celebration of the proclamation of the Philippine Independence Day held last June 12, 2016 with this year’s theme: “KALAYAAN 2016: PAGKAKAISA, PAG-AAMBAGAN, PAGSULONG” at the Heroes Park in front of the Buenavista Municipal Hall.
Buenavistahanons from all walks of life, spearheaded by Hon. Eugenio G. Reyes joined the said celebration started with a parade as early as 6:30 in the morning.
Right after the parade was the presentation of the newly elected Municipal Officials. Then Flags were raised by the honored guests Hon. Cyril Beltran and Hon. Dan Elby Habaña, both Sangguniang Bayan Members of the Province of Guimaras for the Provincial Flag and Hon. Reyes and his wife, Mrs. Mary Wilzen C. Reyes for the Municipal Flag. The flag raising signified the start of the celebration of the declaration of Philippine Independence Day followed by a short program. Along with this is the oath taking ceremony and the delivery of the executive accomplishment for calendar year 2015.
Judge Rosario Abigail M. Dris-Villanueva, Presiding Judge, RTC Branch 65, Province of Guimaras graced the occasion. She officiated the oath taking of the re-elected and newly elected Municipal Officials right after she had given her message.
Hon. Eugenio G. Reyes, Municipal Mayor highlighted again the Country’s independence struggle against the then abusive Spanish rule government.
He then pledge to Buenavistahanon and took his chance to deliver his Executive Accomplishment for Calendar Year 2015. He emphasized every accomplishment gained from every sectors ( Governance & Administration, Social, Environmental and Economic Development) during under his previous years of administration.
As the so called father of Buenavista, he gratefully thanked the Buenavistahon from all of their support during his previous endeavor and wholeheartedly asked their another trust and support as he goes along into another journey as Municipal Mayor because he strongly believed that such success will not be gained without the help and cooperation of each and everyone.
Through all of this accomplishments, he still encouraged everyone to have a continuous effort and support especially to his fellow Municipal Officials and they would formulate a concrete plans for the program, projects and activities towards upholding a better future of Buenavistahanon – a more progressive Buenavista.
After giving his message, he led the floral offering to the monument of Dr. Jose Rizal accompanied by the municipal officials as a sign of gratitude and respect for our National Hero.
Hon. Cecile C. Gumarin. MD, Municipal Vice Mayor then gave her word’s of thanks followed by the mass singing of “BAYAN KO” which gives emphasis to the real essence of the celebration. As the lyrics showed how Filipinos struggled in order to attain our loved freedom.
The cooperation and participation of all government and private sectors namely the Philippine National Police; Veterans Federation of the Philippines-Guimaras District; Senior Citizens Federation of the Philippines-Buenavista Chapter; Faculty and Staff from Private and Public Elementary and High Schools and Guimaras State College Campuses; Municipal and Barangay officials and employees, and the Non-Government Organizations, People’s Organizations (NGOs) and many others in the community made the occasion successful.
