Timbangan ng Bayan Project of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in partnership with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Buenavista took effect and become operational through the Memorandum of Agreement considered by both parties on February 11, 2016.

Two weighing scales were turned over by the DTI to the LGU of Buenavista on the said date to be put up in the New Poblacion Public Market for its consumer to determine truly the weight and measure of any article bought. However in the event that the Buenavista Commercial Complex at Barangay Mclain becomes operational within the effectivity of the MOA, such weighing scales will be transferred thereto.

This is a National Project of DTI that can help to promote and encourage fair, honest and equitable relations among parties in consumer transactions and protect consumers against deceptive, unfair and unconscionable sales acts or practices.

It was turned over in person of Ma. Carmen I. Iturralde, Officer-in-Charge, DTI Guimaras at the Buenavista Municipal Hall through Hon. Eugenio G. Reyes, Municipal Mayor.

The DTI is an implementing agency in the regulation of practices relative to weights and measure as specified in Chapter II Title III of the Republic Act 7394 otherwise known as Consumer Act of the Philippines.
